SIR—You published an article “Starved baby recovers†in The
New Vision of October 16 .
The article contained misinformation that the starving child was rescued by Action
For Children (AFC) from Mrs Mawejje’s home at Makerere
Kikoni, thereby causing much embarrassment to Mrs
Mawejje and her family.
The following are the facts:
1. Mrs Mawejje is not a grandmother of the child, but a sister to the child’s grandmother. The child’s grandmother, Mrs Mayi Nalubuga (who died three days before the publication of the
article), had been disabled in a motor accident and was being looked after by Mrs Mawejje.
2. The child’s father, Mr Lwanga Ssemakula, a carpenter is not a son of Mrs Mawejje but a nephew and lives at
Kitezi, not at Makerere Kikoni with Mrs Mawejje.
3. The starved child was rescued by AFC from her parents’ home at Kitezi in Wakiso
district, not from Mrs Mawejje’s home.
4. The child is now recovering at Mrs Mawejje’s home
at Makerere Kikoni.
