By Kyetume Kasanga Masindi district LC5 executive has blasted Hoima district leaders over their petition to have the resident judge based in Hoima and not in Masindi as planned by the Judiciary. The New Vision on Tuesday quoted the leaders telling Justice Galdino Moro Okello of the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court that Hoima was the central point of Bunyoro region. They also reportedly availed a piece of land for the Judiciary to build premises for the High court and the Chief Magistrate’s Court. Okello promised to present their views to higher authorities. But Majara said judges and magistrates are not posted according to land area. He said their location depends on the nature and level of crime, adding that Masindi’s crime rate was high. “Whether they offer land or not does not matter. What is important is that Judicial services must be nearer to the people who need them most,” Majara said. He said the Judiciary had not told him it lacked land in Masindi, but said a house for the judge, chambers for magistrates and a bigger court which only needed expansion, were available and the Judiciary knew it.
