MINISTERS and Members of Parliament will not vie for LC elections, according to a Bill passed by Parliament yesterday.
The Local Governments (Amendments) (No.2) Bill, 2001, tabled by local government minister Jaberi Bidandi Ssali also requires a member of LCI committee to resign his post if elected to the Parish or Ward committee.
It also said that a member of a sub-county executive committee should not resign if elected chairperson or vice-chairperson of the county administrative council. It said election of local government councils should be at least 60 days before the expiry of the term of the existing Councils.
