TWO water experts from the California Water Services Company are in Uganda on a volunteer mission to analyse the water supply system in Kampala, reports Geoffrey Kamali. The company is the largest water supply group in the US, servicing over two million households. Water engineers, Eric Charles and Bill Harper, arrived at the weekend on the invitation of the International Development Projects (IDP), based in Bakersfield, California. They will visit the Ggaba water works and hold meetings with the National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NW&SC) management on how to improve the city’s water supply system. “They will assess the situation and put forward a proposal on water assessment, how to treat water and its purification,” Mr. J.W. Balzar, an IDP official said. He said the engineers would also meet the lands, water and environment minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, and other ministry officials on the water situation in Uganda. Balzar said other volunteers from the US Water Association would soon join the team as part of the programme. The water condition will be analysed and the data sent back to California for laboratory analysis and solutions proposed.
