A TOTAL of 136 children including LRA fighters have recently defected from Joseph Kony’s camp in southern Sudan, according to security reports at the UPDF Fourth Division in Gulu, reports Dennis Ojwee. The reports say the children are still in the Sudan, though out of Kony’s captivity and are seeking assistance to return to Uganda. The UPDF Fourth Division Intelligence Officer, Maj. James Kaija, confirmed the children’s escape yesterday in a telephone interview with The New Vision. He said further details about the plight of the children were not yet clear. The division spokesman, Capt. Khelil Magara was not available for comment, as he was on leave. Maj. James Kaija said 30 LRA fighters defected from Joseph Kony’s camp in southern Sudan and reported back home in northern Uganda within the last month. He said the ex-LRA soldiers reported to various stakeholders in Acholi sub-region with their guns. He said the soldiers reported in two groups. The first was a group of 19 soldiers with 11 guns. Kaija said the second group, consisting of 11 soldiers with six guns, reported at Pabbo displaced persons’ camp, in Kilak county in Gulu, about three days ago. Ends
