The Bill calls for the abolition of the Army Commander’s post and the creation of the powerful position of Chief of Defence Forces (CDF). Sources said the enactment of the Bill will make UPDF a professional army to match standards elsewhere. Scanty details from the Bill show that the CDF will have two deputies The Commander of Land Forces will head the Infantry, Marines and the Reserve Forces and the Airforce Commander, currently a department. Defence minister Amama Mbabazi yesterday said, “It is true we intend to table a Bill to restructure the army, but it is still a secret.” ends
