The National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) is an autonomous body which promotes and undertakes research in crops, livestock, fisheries, forestry and natural resources management and ensures research results are disseminated and applied.

The National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) is an autonomous body which promotes and undertakes research in crops, livestock, fisheries, forestry and natural resources management and ensures research results are disseminated and applied. The organisation wishes to recruit an INFORMATION ASSISTANT under the Kajjansi Aquaculture Research and Development Centre (KARDC). This is a unit of the Fisheries Resources Research Institute (FIRRI) under NARO charged with two main mandate areas a) Production of fish for farmers and b) Development of appropriate feed. The Centre, located along Entebbe Road, is developing an Information/Packaging and delivery strategy targeting the promotion of fish farming in Uganda. The Information Assistant will carry out the following tasks:- a) Organising and managing the KARDC library b) Placing orders for new materials on Aquaculture for expansion of the library c) Answering all requests for information made to KARDC d) Assisting in the preparation and delivery of Aquaculture training courses held at KARDC e) Assisting in the preparation of extension and training materials, newsletters and promotional material used by KARDC. f) Carrying outs regular maintenance checks of the station's components and ensure that all electronic data are well organised, backed up and safeguarded against viruses. g) Maintaining the station's e-mail and internet links. h) Carrying out regular training of staff in the use of computers and internet. i) Liaising with the relevant institutions such as Aquaculture Unit in MAAIF, FIRRI- Jinja and NAADS for information gathering, sharing and dissemination. j) Producing quarterly reports on the status of the library and information gathering and dissemination. Qualifications and Experience: Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Library and Information Science. Should have training in IT and use of computers. Applicants with experience in use of e-mail and sophisticated reproduction equipment like scanners will be of an added advantage.
