By Eva Nabagesera & Sylvia Mpawulo MBW Consulting Engineers contracted to carry out a study of the Naguru and Nakawa housing estates have declared the units unfit for human habitation. This was revealed recently in a report submitted to Kampala City Council (KCC). It said the structures in Nakawa estate were in a worse state of repair than those in Naguru. Nakawa division chairman Protazio Kintu last week confirmed to The New Vision the submission of the report. “Many proposals and amendments were made and consultants are to come with the final document,” Kintu said. The socio-economic survey findings revealed KCC allocated the houses to the majority of the tenants in the two estates and that they pay directly to it. “The idea is that a number of ‘pool’ houses in Uganda, including those formerly owned by corporations, have been sold to sitting tenants at lower than the market prices,” the report read.
