By Hillary Nsambu Prominent Kampala businessman Joseph Lusse, who has been in and out of jail several times on treason charges, has been freed. Lady Justice Julia Ssebutinde released Lusse yesterday after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) dropped the charges against him. Lusse's release follows a decision by the Government to accept his request for pardon. Lusse had earlier in June this year applied to be released from jail under the Amnesty Act 2000. He assured the Government that he had renounced and denounced all rebellion against the State. Earlier, state attorney David Ndamurani Ateenyi had told the court that the DPP was no longer interested in proceeding with the charges against Lusse. Ateenyi said the Amnesty Commission had signed the pardon papers for Lusse on October 24 and that the DPP signed Lusse's release on October 26, 2000. He tendered in court both documents. Ends.
