MOSAC's impatience cost them Pearl rally

AUTOMOBILE Association of Uganda (AAU) is the local motor sport supreme governing body.

AUTOMOBILE Association of Uganda (AAU) is the local motor sport supreme governing body. The AAU may be running motor sport in a way alien to rally fans, they may even be destroying the sport. The gang of three - John Mutenda, Sam Sali and Felix Odongkara -may even be personalising rally issues. But, as long as it is they that the world motorsport governing body FIA recognise, everyone will have to bear with them as alternatives are sought. The lack of patience by MOSAC, and those out to form an alternative motorsport governing body, is what the AAU has pounced on to assert their authority. AAU have removed MOSAC club's right to organise the prestigious continental championship, the Pearl of Africa rally. MOSAC's enlightened leaders must have known better than to underlook AAU organisation prescriptions, however minor they were. They fell into a trap. It looks unlikely that Uganda will get two national sports authorities to manage rallying, but, clubs, fans and drivers should be patient and await FIA's recognition of FMU- the proposed alternative motor sport body. If that fails, then all drivers must show their discontent in the 2001 Pearl rally. Ends.
