Mbabazi and owori off to Dar-es-Salaam for Ladies Open

NORAH Mbabazi and Alice Owori will represent Uganda in the Tanzania Open Ladies golf tournament this weekend.

By Douglas Mazune NORAH Mbabazi and Alice Owori will represent Uganda in the Tanzania Open Ladies golf tournament this weekend. Mbabazi (h/c5) and Owori (h/c9) were scheduled to leave for Dar -es- Salaam last night for the 54-holes tournament that runs from November 17 to 19. Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) will pay for the duo's air tickets, accommodation, entry fee and allowances. ULGU president Monica Ntege handed over the sponsorship package to Mbabazi and Owori yesterday at Uganda golf club at Kitante. "We are very grateful to the ladies union for sponsoring us, we are leaving tonight (yesterday) and we hope we will represent the country well," Owori said. The pair would play a test round on what has been described as a dry Tanzanian course this morning. "We will play a test round tomorrow (today) but only one round is not enough to learn how putt on the browns, you know their course is brown- there is no grass. We will try our best, we will try to use good caddies who know the course," Owori said. Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Zambia among others have confirmed participation. Arua will be the place to be for the golf fraternity this weekend reports William Muwonge. Golfers are heading to the West Nile town for the Arua Open coming after the Spear Motors Weekend of golf. Veteran player Kaka Matama won the 36-hole Spear Motors event held at the Kitante course in Kampala. MTN is sponsoring the Uganda Golf Union event in (UGU) in Arua. Kampala, Jinja, Fort-Portal, Mbarara, Kabale, Masindi clubs are expected to take part in the tournament. Ends.
