She Kobs face Reunion today at Vosloorus stadium, Johannesburg, in a match they must win to get a semifinal place in the Africa women's soccer championship.
South Africa's Banyana Banyana, group A leaders with six points, qualified for the semi-finals after whipping Uganda 3-0 Tuesday. Uganda had earlier drawn 2-2 with Zimbabwe.
Banyana's goals scored by Joan Solomons, Makhosi Luthuli and Hilda Lekalakala relegated Uganda to third place with a point. Ugandan strikers Fatuma Manashe, Alaisa Nakanwagi and Majidah Nantanda failed to penetrate South Africa's defence.
She Kobs' only hope is to beat Reunion by more than a goal, and for South Africa as well to hand Zimbabwe a heavy defeat.
She Kobs' problems were not eased after CAF refused to clear star striker Jane Nanjekye, a late inclusion from injury to play.
Sam Timbe, the She Kobs' coach, told New Vision: "We gave South Africa a lot of room in midfield and paid a heavy price. "
Champion Nigeria hit Morocco 6-0, Ghana beat Cameroon 2-0. Ghana faces Morocco tomorrow while Nigeria battle Cameroon.
