Ugandan children hailed for discipline

By Davis Weddi A British educationist Pat Langford has hailed African children as a world example of good behaviour in the classroom. Langford who stood in for Namirembe Bitamazire, State Minister for Education (primary), was speaking at the open day for SOS children's village School in Kakiri. He said European teachers, who have been to Uganda, have gone back with a lot of knowledge on the behaviour of school children. The open day was marked by presentations in music and poetry by pupils of the school. It was the last gathering in which parents and teachers converged at the school during the third term. SOS children's village Kakiri was opened in 1995 to cater for orphans. Langford, who is also the headteacher for Taibah Junior School, called upon parents and friends of children to support the SOS Kakiri School. He said Taibah Junior had a programme of exchange of teachers with SOS Kakiri, which has benefited both schools, with production of good results in different curriculums. The occasion also saw the best school children being awarded certificates of merit in different fields including athletics and academics. The school's outgoing executive of the Parents and Teachers Association were also given certificates in recognition of the services they gave to the school. Ends.
