By Kalungi Kabuye For the first time in several years, a Ugandan musician has produced a song especially for Christmas, and it has become a major hit on local FM radios. Joe Tabula, hot on the heels of his immensely successful Otusuza Mungatto, this month released the song Hosanna Alleluya, and it has become the toast of Kampala. "Probably not since the late Philly Lutaaya produced his Christmas album, has a local Christmas song raised such a storm." Hubb Gales, Capital Radio's programme manager told The New Vision. "It has become very popular, and the response is truly amazing." Hosanna Alleluya was recorded at BK Studios in Nsambya, and released as a single by Tabula. Like Otusuza Mungatto, Tabula again goes back to the South African rhythms of the mid-eighties to produce a catchy, fast driven song that will definitely be a hit, and one can imagine what it would be like in the townships. It has Tabula's signature insistent bassline and multi-vocal chorus. The song was originally 6:17 long, but the radio version was cut down to 3:40. In the song, Tabula thanks the Lord for the past year, and for taking him through the hills and valleys of life. He celebrates the passing of the year, and the coming of the new century. All the time while producing a pulsating beat that will stay with you long after the song has ended. Ends.
