By Solomon Muyita COURT has issued a production warrant to a presidential Protection Unit personnel attached to Entebbe, charged with two counts of attempted murder. Private Julius Mbovimpa, 24, a resident of Makerere Kikoni in Kampala, is accused of shooting and injuring two people who had come out of their house to rescue a wailing woman who was being raped. He was supposed to appear in Buganda Road Court last week but the Luzira Prison authorities, did not produce him. Mbovimpa first appeared before the Kampala City Council (KCC) Court but his case was transferred to Buganda Road Court because the KCC Court did not have jurisdiction over his case. Prosecution led by Mr. Charles Ojakol alleged that on December 3 this year at Makerere Kikoni in Kampala, Mbovimpa unlawfully attempted to cause death of Michael Basaijja and Namande Gertrude. Mbovimpa allegedly shot at them when they tried to rescue an old woman that he (Mbovimpa) was raping in the Makerere Kikoni Market, court heard. Meanwhile a special-hire driver accused of running away from a traffic policewoman was last week charged with three-traffic offences, reports Florence Nakayi. Mark Luyima, 26, of Kansanga was charged with failing to have a passenger licence and failing to comply with a police officer's directives. Ends.
