By Paul Okaramedo AN unidentified boda-boda operator in Tororo town recently abandoned a body of a child by the roadside and fled in fear of being arrested for lack of a graduated tax ticket. This happened on the Malaba-Tororo highway. The cyclist was transporting the dead body from Tororo Main Hospital to Amagoro in Kenya. The local administration police and local defence units (LDU) had set up a road block to arrest graduated tax defaulters. Some officials who did not want to be named told The New Vision that when they stopped the bodaboda man, he jumped off the bicycle and ran away leaving behind the bicycle and a box. "When we checked the box, we were shocked to see the body of a child wrapped in white cloth," one of the officers said. The officers said they all fled. This was the end of the exercise of arresting tax defaulters. An hour later, relatives of the abandoned body arrived and took it. "He only told us that some people had stopped him on the highway near Mayembe check point," Amuge, the mother of the deceased, said. She told The New Vision that she hired the bodaboda man because she did not have enough money to hire a vehicle. Ends.
