NILE Special Premier Rugby League champions Heathens had to grit their teeth to tame tenacious Entebbe Mongers and have warned that other giants may not escape the Mongers’ trap, writes Douglas Mazune.

Heathens coach Brian Tabaruka who was happy with his side’s 26-5 win in Entebbe last weekend was impressed with Mongers tactics.

“Big teams (in reference to notably Kobs and Pirates) should be wary of Mongers. It is such a formidable side. It was our toughest game so far. They are well organised for which I give them credit. I wouldn’t be surprised if they pull off major upsets this year,” Tabaruka warned.

Tabaruka hailed Mongers management for assembling a team capable of challenging the top three — Heathens, Kobs and Pirates.

“A strong Mongers team is good for Ugandan rugby. It is encouraging to see that kind of competition coming from a team outside Kampala,” Tabaruka stated.

Pirates face Mongers at Kampala Club next week and the Entebbe side will return to the same venue a week later to take on Kobs.

Mongers coach/player Kigongo Ssebalamu is confident sponsorship from Sadolin Paints will be a big boost.

Mongers that have been running the club on financial contributions from players and officials got two sets of jerseys and sh12m.

The club is now in position to give transport allowances to players after training.
