MASAKA Municipality mayoral candidate Dr. Deo Luwuukya has promised to fight corruption and bring back the town’s lost glory.

MASAKA Municipality mayoral candidate Dr. Deo Luwuukya has promised to fight corruption and bring back the town’s lost glory.

Luwuukya was addressing his supporters in Masaka town over the weekend. He is battling it out with six other candidates.

The seat was formerly occupied by Tebyasa Matovu, who resigned on medical grounds.

Other contestants for Masaka mayoral seat are Kasibante Kibabirire, Kayemba Afaayo,William Kalumba and Badru Namuyimba.

Luwuukya also promised to bring in investors to set up small scale industries in the municipality in order to improve the livelihoods of the residents.

“We have gone through hardships for the past 20 years. I believe when elected, I will work together with other leaders to change the image of the town,” he said.

Luwuukya said the area had lagged behind due to poor leadership and promised to change the situation once he is voted into power.

He said there were many potholes and poor drainage system in the municipality due to failure of the leaders to address them.

Luwuukya said the business community in the area was overtaxed by the council and promised to reduce the taxes.

He promised to work with the district and the central government to ensure that health centers are well stocked with drugs and people in the area get proper medical treatment.
