HER votes and those of her opponent, Sendi Sulaiman, were inflated by the Electoral Commission (EC), Rubaga Division chairperson-elect Joyce Ssebugwawo has said.

Addressing journalists at Christ the King Hall in Kampala yesterday, Ssebugwawo noted that she found out the anomaly after an analysis of the data on the signed declaration forms from the 334 polling stations.

Ssebugwawo, the vice-president of the FDC, said she had set up her own tally centre to check the rigging machinery.
“Our results confirmed that one of the ways the EC rigs is through fabrication of results,” she claimed.

The EC declared Ssebugwawo winner on account that she collected 23,794 votes (40.7%), while her closest rival, Sendi Sulaiman of the NRM, garnered 17,834 votes (30.5%).

However, Ssebugwawo said her tally centre showed that she scored 20,774 votes (43.6%), while Sendi got 11,822 (24%).

“These results differ greatly from those declared by the returning officer of Kampala district. Sendi was added a whole 6,000 votes, either deliberately or by mistake. We demand an immediate clarification on this,” Ssebugwawo stated.

EC spokesperson Charles Ochola dismissed Ssebugwayo’s comments as ‘observations’.

“We cannot make any comment until we have seen evidence. Otherwise, the EC doesn’t in anyway involve itself in the process of rigging,” he said.

Ssebugwawo said reports that she condemned the call for peaceful demonstrations were intended to estrange her with her voters.

Ssebugwawo also denied that she commands a Kiboko Squad as reported by the Police.
