STEVEN Semwanga, 35, a driver, office assistant and banking agent was incredulous when he received a call from Blitz telling him he had been chosen to hang out with his favourite singer, Betty Mpologoma. He told Duncan Kushaba about what went down.

Steve, you won’t lie to me. What are you smiling about?
That is how I am, I smile all the time.
I only see me and you here, am I dressed funny?
I just met Betty Mpologoma, my best Ugandan musician ever! I still cannot believe it. She was just here with me a while ago. Oh my God, she even bought me some Luwombo and drinks, can you imagine that?
Woah Woah, take it slow, readers want to comprehend the whole story.
(Breathes in…….) Okay, where exactly do you want me to start?

First tell me what came through your mind when you saw Betty heading towards you?
Oh my God! I almost froze. I was waiting for her to just look at me and turn away but Jesus, she welcomed me like she knew me from somewhere. How do you guys do it? Do you tell these artistes to treat us their fans like we are family?
All Blitz does is make the connection.

Some fans have been disappointed by the way their idols treated them. Tell us more …
She picked me up, made me comfortable in her car and took me to an arcade in town where her sister owns a shop. She introduced me to the sister and her colleagues. After that we went to a small restaurant in the vicinity for lunch.

Her sister was very friendly as well and it felt really good. I felt like their brother. Okay, I think I am her newly acquired brother now (laughs)

Lucky for you. What was your favourite moment with Betty?
That question is not as easy to answer as it sounds. All moments were awesome. I would kill not to let any fade.

Seems like you had a lot of fun. Did you ask her about her marital status?
I did not but I know she is definitely not single. But I am not single either so there was no need to ask.

Now that you have met Betty Mpologoma, what difference did you notice between her and other female artistes you know?
She is a lovely woman. Her husband is a lucky chap. Her caring nature eludes so many other female artistes. I think she is still growing stronger musically and I am definitely going to keep supporting her no matter what.

Which of her songs is your favourite?
Teli Police is my best. It is such a nice song. It speaks much about the lovely caring women in Kampala.
You are one of the guys who hate the Police it seems.
I do not hate the Police. I am just not fond of them.

Any last words to people reading this?
Honestly, as an entertainment pull out, Blitz is truly relevant to us as readers. I am 35 and I think it is going to work for me for a long time to come. I imagine younger readers have even much more fun with it. Keep doing what you do.
