THE Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has asked the finance ministry for at least sh460m to start the next phase of distributing computers to government-aided secondary schools.

ICT minister Aggrey Awori said each school was supposed to get 20 computers to assist students in research. There are over 2,000 secondary schools in the country, in addition to the universities and tertiary institutions that are meant to benefit from the scheme.

He said the project had covered most of the government-aided schools, but 68 schools were yet to be equipped.

“We hope to be through by the end of this financial year,” Awori said.

The minister added that they had contracted companies to install solar panels in rural schools that did not have electricity before computers are supplied to them.
