EDITOR: Last Wednesday, Kyambogo University students polarised campus when they went on strike. They protested against delayed release of their examination results, lack of furniture in lecture rooms, poor meals, dirty toilets, lack of water, failure of lecturers to turn up for lectures to mention a few.

The vice chancellor, Prof. Isaiah Omolo Ndiege , turned to the Police for assistance after the situation worsened.

However, given the history of Kyambogo, there is a problem in the management of our higher institutions of learning. Kyambogo and a number of other new universities were never given resources and attention to upgrade them into a modern universities that could meet the rampant demands of students.

The Government should direct the Ministry of Education, the National Council for Higher Education, and agencies like Education Standards Agency to help improve conditions at universities countrywide.

Reports on the condition of universities should not be left to gather dust on shelves.
