OVERSHADOWED by Uganda’s triumph over Guinea Bissau on Saturday, was an equally important victory elsewhere.

An hour before kick-off of Uganda’s historic away victory win, another Ugandan team was wrapping up a win at Nakivubo.

Uganda’s U-21 national side-the Kobs got off to a winning start in the London 2012 Olympic qualifiers by beating Congo. Karim Ndugwa scored the goal.

So, why was the Nakivubo win significant? True, the Cranes are on course for their first Nations finals in three decades.

A closer look at the side however reveals that its pillars like Ibrahim Sekagya, David Obua, Simeon Masaba and Nestroy Kizito might not have many more qualifiers to play.

That’s exactly why the Kobs should be treated with utmost care because they hold the future.

Thorough Kobs preparation will also boost our chances of making to an even much bigger stage-the Olympics.

But most important, will be the long term guarantee. With the current Kobs, Uganda is assured of a solid side for at least the next 10 years. That virtually this entire squad has been together since the U-17 category is yet another plus.

You need not look very far to realise that continuity breeds success. World champions Spain are dominated by stars who have played together since their early teenage years.

More investment in the Kobs means a bright future.
