Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president, Kizza Besigye, has been jailed over walk-to-work demonstration.

Nabweru Court magistrate, Justine Atukwasa, remanded Besigye to Nakasongola prison until April 27, 2011 when he will re-appear before Court for bail application.

He was jailed with three of his supporters after they were charged with unlawful assembly.

Besigye was Thursday morning arrested over his walk-to-work demonstration against increasing fuel and food prices.

Besigye left his home at Kasangati on Gayaza road in his car but when he reached Kalerwe, he opted to walk to work.

He was arrested at Mulago round about in Kampala by the Police amidst firing of tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd he was walking with.

He was detained at Wandegeya Police station before he was arraigned in Court.

President Yoweri Museveni yesterday vowed to continue cracking down the walk-to-work demonstrations, saying Besigye and his team had refused to obey the law.

The President likened Besigye to wild creepers which cannot defeat a panga. He said the FDC leader was wasting time because he will not be allowed to walk from his home in Kasangati to the city.
