WHILE his rivals were dining and wining during the Easter weekend, former national rally champion Ponsiano Lwakataka took advantage of the holiday to go for early route reccing in Kyotera for the Southern Motor Club (SMC) Rally.

Lwakataka, who is yet to score championship points this season, reckons that with adequate reccing he would be in better position to win the SMC Rally due May 7-8 in his home district of Rakai.

“I have never been beaten at home and I am working hard to keep a perfect home record. Success is a result of thorough preparations which I have already embarked on. The route is quite tricky and that’s where my skill and pace will come in handy,” Lwakataka stated.

The former champion believes he will get in contention for the local championship if he wins the third round of the National Rally Championship.

“There will still be three more races and should the championship be tight I have the option of scoring points in Tanzania which I applied for when I skipped the Mbarara Rally,” he argued.

Susan ‘Super Lady’ Muwonge leads the standings with 160 points.
