UGANDANS might have a chance of watching Diego Maradona live if SC Villa’s intended partnership with Al Wasl FC —one of the most popular clubs in Dubai materializes.

Al Sowaid Sultan Hamid an executive member of the club yesterday met SC Villa officials at the Villa offices in Muyenga to dsicuss a likely partnership that will include building a $10m stadium for the 16-time record champions.

The deal will also include exchange of players and setting up youth structures for the Jogoos.

Al-Wasl FC, who recently signed a two-year contract with Maradona as coach will also be travelling to Uganda for build up matches if the deal is sealed after a future meeting with Al Wasl club president.

‘‘We need partners like this to take Villa back to their old good days. Arabs have taken over football so we hope to benefit from this as well,’’ Villa president Fred Muwema said yesterday.

In a bid to revamp the club’s turbulent fortunes in recent years, Villa signed Serbian coach Srdjan Zivojnov on a three-year renewable contract worth sh534m.

The Jogoos have also since opened up fan bases across the country and were the first to set up a fully operation office and own a media production that records all their events and matches.

Villa were also the first team to sign a foreign coach in the 1980’s in Geoff Hudson and are the record super league winners with 16 titles.

“I hope to meet Al Wasl president soon to discuss the way forward,” Muwema added.
