ABOUT 740 new jobs have been created through the three year Strengthening Women Entrepreneurs project (SWEP).

Rosemary Mutyabule, the Enterprise Uganda director for advisory services, said the project benefited 3,832 rural and peri-urban women entrepreneurs heading small-and-medium enterprises.

“It enabled them to strengthen their businesses skills, which will enable them to survive and compete globally by addressing obstacles of access to finance, markets, production, business and financial literacy skills,” Mutyabule said.

The project, which carried out by Enterprise Uganda, was sponsored by the governments of Uganda and Norway.

“Last December, we carried out an evaluation exercise and we are happy to report that the 3,832 entrepreneurs under the project were able to expand their businesses, creating 740 jobs for themselves and other people,” she said.

She was addressing a SWEP symposium at Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala recently.
