BUKONZO East MP Bihande Bwambale Yokasi was yesterday charged with embezzling sh10m meant for the Constituency Development Fund.

Bihande was charged before Anti-Corruption Court Grade One Magistrate Sarah Langa with counts of embezzlement and uttering false document.

He denied the charges and was granted a cash bail of sh4m.

His sureties Judith Akello Franca, Agago Woman MP, Kaberamaindo Woman MP, Florence Ibi Ekwau and Constantine Bwambale Rwenzururu kingdom prime minister were bonded at sh50m not cash.

Bihande’s lawyer, Ivan Moru, said Bihande is a distinguished Member of Parliament who would not abscond trial if granted bail.

Prosecution led by Rukia Nambozo from the Inspectorate Genera of Government said Bihande, during financial year 2008 and2009, knowingly and fraudulently uttered forged accountability to the chief accountant of Parliament.

Prosecution alleges that Bihande emblezzled the money while performing his duty as Bokonzo East MP in Kasese district.

According to prosecution, Bihande in the financial year 2009 and 2010 again uttered false documents to the accountant of Parliament and embezzled sh9.5m meant for the Constituency Development Fund.

Under sections 351 and 347 of the Penal Code, any person found guilty of uttering false document is liable to a sentence of three years imprisonment.
