MATHIAS Ochwo’s reign as Rugby Cranes captain may turn out to be short-lived as fresh selection will be conducted ahead of the Division 1B Africa Cup that kicks off on Sunday at Kyadondo.

Head coach Yayiro Kasasa will today forward six names, including Ochwo, from which the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) executive will pick a new captain and his vice.

Michael Wokorach, Timothy Mudoola, Paul Kabazzi, Robert Seguya and Stone Luggya are the other players that have been lined up for the captain’s arm-band.

Ochwo, Mudoola and Seguya can count on their maturity and past leadership experience at club and national level. Emerging stars Wokorach and Kabazi fit URU’s plan to nurture Cranes leaders for the future.

“The list from which the captain will be selected is representative of the squad which has a great blend of upcoming and experienced players. As you know there’s no substitute for experience. This mix is working very well for the team,” Kasasa stated.

Ochwo was named captain during the largely fruitless and brief stint of gigantic Kenyan coach Ham Onsandu last season.

“It’s our first international this year and we have started a whole new chapter which affects team leadership as well,” Kasasa stated.

Kasasa is assisted by youthful tacticians Peter Magona, Fred Mudoola and Herbert Wafula.

The team will have a morning training session at Kyadondo today ahead of the residential camp in Entebbe that will start tomorrow.
