CONSTRUCTION of a sh3.1b block that will house health workers at Mbale regional hospital is underway.
The hospital personnel officer, David Ebor, said the four-storey building would accommodate 24 families.
Currently, the hospital has 385 health workers
Each apartment comprises of two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, toilet, store and a bathroom.
Ebor said the structure, which is being funded by the Government, is expected to be completed in September.
â€œOver 75% of the work is done. We expect President Yoweri Museveni to commission the building in the next three months,â€ Ebor said.
He said some of the staff had been residing in uniports, while others rented houses far from the hospital.
â€œThere will be no late-coming once the building is completed,â€ Ebor said.
He revealed that the Government had injected sh140m in the rehabilitation of the hospitalâ€™s sewerage system and that construction of a sh134m information centre was also underway.
Ebor said the Uganda and Japan governments had donated beds to the female ward, constructed a psychiatric ward and rehabilitated all the roads in the hospital.
Mbale Hospital to get staff quarters
