FORMER managing director of National Social Security Funds (NSSF) was yesterday released on bail, pending his appeal.

The Anti-Corruption Court early this year convicted Jamwa of causing a financial loss of sh3b to Uganda workers who save money with NSSF.

Justice John Bosco Katutsi, formerly of the Anti-Corruption Court, sentenced Jamwa to 12 years in jail and barred him from holding any public office for 10 years after that.

In a ruling delivered by Assistant Registrar Alex Ajij, Justice Augustine Nshimye of the Court of Appeal said he was satisfied that if granted bail, Jamwa would not abscond his trial.

Nshimye said a cash bail of sh10m deposited at the Anti- Corruption Court where Jamwa was tried will be treated as a deposit in Court of Appeal.

Jamwa is also to execute a further bond of sh500m not cash and his six sureties, including his father and mother, are also to execute the same amount, each, not cash.

The judge further ordered Jamwa to deposit his passport with the Registrar of Court and to report to the Court of Appeal on every last working day of the month, starting July 29 for extension of his bail, until the appeal is concluded.

The court further ordered Jamwa’s wife, Catherine Bulinda, who was included as the sixth surety, to deposit with Registrar the original title of her land in Munyonyo, valued at sh400m.
