NAMILYANGO Junior Boys’ School, Mukono, has emerged winner of the World Children’s Festival held between June 17 and 19 in Washington DC.

A total of 20 children from the school attended the festival.

Held every four years since 1999 as the “Olympics” of children’s creativity and co-creation, the festival is organised by the International Child Art Foundation. Children aged eight to 12 years worldwide are illegible to be part of the festival.

A total of 15,000 children attended the festival.

The children performed traditional dance, drama and music, highlighting the HIV/AIDS scourge.

Namilyango was declared winner after the school presented the best local drama and cultural dances. They received $1,000 and a plaque.

Mukono district education officer Godfrey Serwanja promised to support the school in promoting extra-curricula activities.
