THE KCB East African Golf Tour brings a sh28m bounty to Kampala but professional golfers should hold back their smile for now.

Only half the field will partake of the prize money, a decision that will get good performers rewarded appropriately while those who will have a bad day out will return home empty-handed.

The tournament is scheduled for July 6-9 at Uganda Golf Club.

KCB Bank executive director Martin Owiny announced that sh28m of the sh95m sponsorship package had been set aside as prize money for the golfers --- which is the biggest purse in Ugandan golf.

With over 50 professionals expected from hosts Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi, which is the biggest turn out on the East African Tour, not all will smile all the way to the bank.

After the second of four rounds, half the field will be trimmed and the rest that will progress will win prize money determined by their position.

“We have 18 professionals in Uganda and we intend to make it to the money bracket and leave Kenya and other countries to share the remaining slots,” Uganda Professional Golfers Association (UPGA) captain Deo Akope boasted.

After the Kampala leg the tour will wind with the grand finale in Mombasa next month where over sh90m will be won in cash prizes.

The bank has sunk a total of sh243m in the entire tour that covers Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda.
