He has not served for a year in the army, but Pte. Moses Okello has already been accused of killing a civilian.

Okello is alleged to have shot and killed his lover, Grace Tiko, 38, at a local drinking joint called P7 in Prison cell in Arua town.

Tiko passed away in Arua Hospital on Sunday, two days after she was shot.

UPDF 4th Division spokesman Capt. Peter Mugisha said Okello would be tried by the division court martial.

“His case is beyond the jurisdiction of the unit court martial. I hope that he receives a severe punishment,” he said.

Investigations by the Police disclosed that Okello was also having a love affair with Stella Okunia, a wife of Geoffrey Ogendua, a Police officer in Arua. Josephine Angucia, the Police spokesperson for West Nile, said when Tiko visited the soldier at his home in the barracks on June 22, she caught him in bed with Okunia. Moved by this, Tiko called other people to bear witness and the news began spreading.

“Okello said he was annoyed after being caught with Okunia. He at first dressed in civilian clothes and went to spy on Tiko. Then he returned to pick his gun and dressed in army uniform to go and kill her,” Angucia said.
