The Police in Abim district have arrested a 35-year-old man over the murder of his brother. District Police commander Abasi Nyombi identified the suspect as Michael Owilli, a resident of Natete village, Awas parish in Lotuke sub-county.

Nyombi said Owilli allegedly beheaded his brother, only identified as Omara last Friday over sh200.

He said Owilli was arrested in Alembora village in Abim sub-county after a tip-off.

“We have him in our cells. He will be taken to court soon,” Nyombi said.

He explained that on July 12, the area MP, Mike Ayepa, visited Natete village and gave sh20,000 to about 100 youth.

“Money was given to the voters in appreciation of their support during the recent election,” Nyombi said.

He said Owilli had gone on errands when the money was given out. However, when he returned, he demanded for his share.

Residents told New Vision that Owilli was informed that his wife had been given his share which was sh200.

“He hurried home and asked for the money. His wife told him that she had used the money to buy biscuits for the children,” a resident said.

Residents said Owilli then picked a quarrel with his wife, attracting his brother’s attention.

“When Omara came out of his hut to arbitrate, Owilli cut his head off,” another resident said.

Nyombi said Omara died on his way to hospital.

Nyombi advised the youth to engage in income-generating activities initiated by the Government to fight poverty among households.
