President Yoweri Museveni has fulfilled a sh113m pledge to support Masaka Municipality market vendors.

Over 300 registered vendors from Nyendo-Ssenyange, Kimaanya-Kyabakuza and Katwe-Butego divisions would benefit from the funds, according to Masaka RDC, Bamusede Bwambale.

Bwambale, however, noted that State House had dispatched a team to verify complaints, claiming that the money was not fairly allocated.

“The State House team came and we handed over the reports of the market vendors’ project for verification after some vendors raised complaints over the way the money was shared.”

The complaint was filed by the Katwe-Butego division market vendors, protesting the sh20m allocated to them as little.

Their counterparts in Ssazza Market got sh53m, they argued.

Bwambale said the money was channelled through the Masaka micro-finance institutions in Nyendo and Kyabakuza, where the registered markets vendors would access it.

“The money is aimed at boosting their businesses. Every registered vendor will benefit regardless of the political affiliations,” he noted.

He said the idea to support market vendors was a countrywide programme initiated by President Museveni.

Last year, President Museveni personally donated sh300m to help low-income earners in the Nyendo suburb fight poverty.
