UGANDA’s Emmanuel Tugumisirize posted a personal best of 46.7 seconds to qualify for the second round of the men’s 400m race at the ongoing 26th Summer Universiade games here.

The Nkumba University athlete will now line-up against the games’ finest athletes in Jamaican Peter Mathews and Ireland’s Brian Gregan.

“This is a good start for us and we want to maintain the spirit,” said the national team coach Faustine Kiwa.

Uganda’s team captain Sarah Nambawa was ruled out of the women’s long jump event after failing to secure a visa from the USA to Shenzhen in time.

She will however take part in the triple jump on Thursday. Uganda’s medal hopeful and long distance runner Joseph Chebet will take to the track today in the 10, 000m race.
