Kampala Junior Team’s investment in youth paid off on Sunday when they qualified two teams to the finals of the central Airtel Rising Stars U-17 event. They won the two sh1.5m top prizes.

KJT’s team B won 12-11 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the finals held at Nakivubo Blue primary school ground.

In the girls category Kawempe’s Gadhafi Integrated Academy were also 4-3 winners on penalties over Edgars after a goalless draw at the same muddy and water logged venue.

The boys final had nine-man KJT-A taking an early lead from a free-kick executed by Juma Seguya from outside the 18-yard area before hard working KJT-B’s David Kasibante found the equalizer towards the end of the first half .

In the second half KJT-B’s underlined their intentions by taking the lead through Fashiya Nsubuga but their celebrations were short-lived when Frank Kayima headed in KTT-A’s equalizer with five minutes left.

Fans who braved the afternoon down pour were treated to a dramatic shoot-out in both finals with all players on the teams taking kicks.

Despite the soggy pitch that hampered the game in both finals, Edgars’ Zaina Nabatanzi and Angela Nakisozi proved a class apart in the girls’ category while Ghadafi’s Teddy Nakato, keeper Jamilah Lunkuse and defender Zaituni Uzamukunda are stars in the making.

KJT’s David Kasibante, Nsubuga, Latif Kalyowa and Kayima if nurtured well could also provide future striking solutions for Uganda.
