Most MPs from Kabale district on Sunday shunned a meeting to fundraise and discuss Kigezi diocese’s contribution to the Church House project.

The meeting was held in Kampala at St. Andrews Church, Bukoto and hosted by the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese, George Katwesigye. It was targeting leaders from Kabale living in Kampala.

The Church House is a project being undertaken by the Province of the Church of Uganda in Kampala City. Every diocese in the province is expected to own shares in the project.

Church of Uganda expects the project to generate revenue for the dioceses.

The Prime Minister, Amama Mbabazi, who presided over the meeting, contributed sh10m to the project. He advised the leaders from Kabale to avoid divisive politics and unite for development of the area.

When contacted, David Bahati (Ndorwa West), who is the chairman of the Kabale Parliamentary Forum, said MPs who did not attend the meeting would announce their pledges later.

Bahati said some MPs missed the meeting because they were on official duties abroad.
