COME next Thursday, the Kampala Rugby Club will turn into a massive bar of some sort, as the first ever beer festival , of its kind, in the country will take place there.

Running until Friday 30th, the festival will feature distillers, wine shops and more than 20 brewers and 35 brands of beer.

Beer importers and craft beer brewers from across the nation will be on site for the anticipated celebration of craft beer (beer produced on small scale).

The festival will also feature a commemorative tasting glass for people to sample Ugandan alcohol. There will also be live music, table display competitions, beer educational sessions, foods such as pies, curries, fish and chips, sausages, burgers, steaks, cheese and pork.

Event organisers, 4sight Uganda, will donate part of the proceeds from the festival to Mulago Hospital. Andrew Okwero, the managing director, says the festival is aimed at celebrating life and the opportunities that have been offered by breweries. It will also celebrate the act of giving to charity, the reason they are contributing to the wellbeing of Mulago Hospital maternity ward.

“Mothers bring us into this world therefore celebrating life without considering people that give birth to us is not proper,” Okwero added.
