'We are proud to be Ugandan'

Dec 27, 2011

Most Ugandans are so proud of their country and are looking forward to celebrating Uganda’s Golden Jubilee next year. .

By Norman Katende and Juliet Lukwago

 Annet Nansubuga,resident of Ndeeba
Celebrating Golden Jubilee for what? Everything is still in a mess. Do you know that you can call the Police for help and they take hours or say they have no fuel? I think only the well-off should celebrate the jubilee.

Juliet Ndibaisa, security officer
I am a lady and yet I am allowed to work, which is not the case in most countries. I can stand up and be counted.

Ronnie Samula,Record Network
There is a lot of belief in my country. The culture is good and the way people believe in themselves makes me proud.

Maimuna Nakisitu, banana hawker
I was born in Uganda and cannot change my nationality. My tribe and how we were brought up is also different from others.

Birungi Omuwereza, hawker of glass furniture
Our tribe is different from others across the world. I also like the receptiveness and friendliness of our people.

Brenda Nanjehe, Police PRO office
The general nature of Uganda makes me proud.  Good security and good climate that you can’t easily find anywhere. It is generally a good country that I am proud of.

Paul Ageru, an accountant
My ethnicity makes me proud of Uganda. Also, the national symbol, the national flag and national anthem are a source of pride for me.

Gertrude Wazemba, student, IUIU Mbale
I am black in colour and have freedom to walk and work. This freedom is great and I am proud of it.

Emma Kiiza, Bodaboda rider
Our tribes are unique, they are friendlier. They identify me with a good country. Also our achievements are great as a country and we need to support them.

Abraham Nalwere, resident of Zana
I was young when Uganda celebrated its first independence. However, independence today has lost meaning.
Before we get rid of tear gas, there is no point in celebrating the Golden Jubilee.

Faridah Namuli, Banker
I was born in Uganda and my descent is different. Ugandans are also welcoming and easily interact with each other. This cannot be found anywhere.

David Olwa, agriculturist

The beauty of Uganda stands out. Uganda is a true pearl of Africa with natural resources and a variety of cultures that are united. The hospitality and social life also makes us stand out as real Ugandans.

Florence Mirembe,a social worker
It is my belonging. I was born here, I grew up here and I will die in this country. It’s my country and I am proud of it. I will not change. The environment is good and there is humility and kindness, which you will not find in any other country.

Jafari Etoma, trader at Old Taxi Park
Uganda is good but still lags behind in many things. There is no major development in the country and the gap between the rich and poor is so big. Besides, many graduates are jobless.
