Eight Police officers have been suspended amid allegations that they hired out a sniffer dog to the public

Eight Police officers have been suspended amid allegations that they hired out a sniffer dog to the public.

The detectives were sent home on Monday following complaints from the public and an investigation into abuse of office claims has been launched.

Asuman Mugyenyi, the Police spokesperson and Political Commissar, identified the suspended detectives as David Turyagumisiriza, the deputy officer in- charge of CID, Benon Nkurunziza, Edida Kyomugisha, Wilber Rumanyika, Hellen Akori, Michael  Mutegaya  all from Mbarara Police Station  and Jackson Mugisha from Ntungamo Police station.

Mugenyi also confirmed the arrest of a Police dog handler for allegedly playing a part in the hiring out of the dog to the public. The arrest was ordered by the Police head of operations, Grace Turyagumanawe.

It is alleged that the officers were hiring out the dog at sh300,000.
