A Ugandan Prof Elly Sabiiti has been nominated as the first president of major agriculture general assembly during a key agriculture meeting that opened at Entebbe Imperial Resort Hotel Wednesday morning.

The Asscoiation for Strengthening Agriculture Research in East and Central Africa general assembly was opened on Wednesday by the minister of agriculture who is representing President Yoweri Museveni.

Under the theme, “Feeding our region in the 21 Century,” the meeting comprising researchers, business people and policy makers has been convened by the 10-country Association for Strengthening Agriculture Research.

Sabiiti’s ascendency to the presidency of the General Assembly is in recognition of Uganda’s efforts in promoting agricultural research as well as providing a home for the Secretariat.

The East African region and Africa at large are pushing to find solutions to food security and how to turn agriculture into a profitable venture that can transform lives and communities.
