VP donates sh2m to St. Lwanga Church

UGANDAN Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has donated sh2m for roofing to St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church in Ndejje, Kampala.

UGANDAN Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has donated sh2m to St. Charles Lwanga Catholic Church in Ndejje, Kampala.

Ssekandi made the donation, meant to finance roofing of the church on Sunday during prayers at the Ndejje sub-Parish.

Speaking at the ceremony, the VP, formerly the Speaker of Parliament said the church was headed in the right direction towards advancing development in the area. He pledged to continue lending a financial hand until the 1000-seater church, which is under construction, is completed.

Over sh200m is needed to complete constructing the project, Gerald Lumbuye Nsubuga, the chairman of the laity, told the Parishioners and well-wishers.

Lumbuye said, so far, over sh150m has been injected into the project. Another challenge that lies ahead is to raise another sh200m needed for installing windows, doors, internal and external plastering.

He said most of the money used in the construction was raised by Christians of Ndejje and other well-wishers.

Wakiso district Chairman on behalf of the district pledged sh1m, State Wide Insurance offered a cheque of sh1m, Wakiso district women representative Rose Mary Sseninde donated sh300,000, among several other contributors.

Over sh10m in cash and pledges was raised during the Sunday function.

Archbishop of Kampala Dr. Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, contributed sh1m, while Buganda Kingdom premier Eng. John Baptist Walusimbi pledged Sh. 500,000. 

Kampala Archdiocese Chancellor Fr. Joseph Kazibwe Ntuuwa, who represented Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, urged Ugandans to promote peace and unity and to participate in church programmes.
