Hundreds of people on Friday gathered at Christ the King Church in Kampala to participate in a yearly occasion organized by Uganda Funeral Services LTD to pray for the souls of the dead most especially those they have handled.

Kampala Archdiocese Bishop emeritus, Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala led the Holy Eucharist, assisted by the Parish Priest, Msgr. Gerald Kalumba and Rev Fr Peter Byangwa  to pray for the departed souls.

The Cardinal said that the story of creation of man is minutely narrated in the Bible. God made man in our image and likeness of ourselves. Man was composed of body and soul. Both parts making up the image of God and each is important and has a dignity of its own.

“The tradition and practice of the church through the ages is to respect the whole human person in whatever condition he may be from conception to burial,” the Cardinal said.

He said that 14 years ago Uganda Funeral Services started its work in Uganda. To many of us it looked an unnecessary under-taking. We had our own way of disposing of the remains of our people whom the Lord called from this world. The few of us, who had had exposure to other practices appreciated and welcomed the new venture. It helped to enhance the respect to the dead.

The managing director of Uganda Funeral Services Limited, Regina Mukiibi, hailed their clients for continuously entrusting the last moments of their beloved ones and promised to relentlessly render services to those who need them.

During the mass there was an occasion of lighting candles as a symbol of light in heaven.
