Ntungamo to get technical University

Ntungamo District leaders have confirmed plans to build the first public university in the area which will attract more education opportunities in western Uganda. Officials said the university foundation is expected to start by end of this year.

Ntungamo District leaders have confirmed plans to build the first public university in the area which will attract more education opportunities in western Uganda. Officials said the university foundation is expected to start by end of this year.
 
The development comes years after residents complained about the absence of high institutions of learning in the district. The executive member of Kariisa foundation, Hamidu Kaliisa said the district and its neighboring areas are facing high illiteracy levels due to lack of higher institutions of learning.
 
The modern technical university is to be built in Ruhama sub-county in Ntungamo district. Addressing journalists at Ruhama on Friday, Kaliisa said the mission is to ensure that there is access to education.
 
“We have had a problem of attracting and retaining professionals in the district and failing to retain them because they are trained from far and can never appreciate situations much different from their training places,” Kaliisa said.
Kariisa Foundation has been operating in Ruhama since December 2009 involved in helping community they also built big mosque at Ruhama and giving out religious books for Evangelism like Quran and Bibles. 
 
The Foundation will also benefits residents of Ngoma in Nyachera sub-county and Rwera in Rweikiniro sub-county.

The charity foundation with help area MP Janet Museveni was founded in 2009. It is a Saudi Arabia project with a goal of increasing access to the high education for residents and nearby communities. The targeted students from around schools and other countries like Rwanda, Congo, Tanzania, and Burundi among others. 
 
A total of $1m (about sh1b) from Saudi Arabia will be used to build the university which will provide education to over 1000 students in the surrounding communities.
