Togo president tours Bujagali Hydro power project

Visiting Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe had a hectic day yesterday, touring a milk processing plant in the city, capping it with the scenic beauty of the source of the Nile and the Bujagali Hydro power project in Jinja district among others.

Visiting Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe had a hectic day today, touring a milk processing plant in the city, capping it with the scenic beauty of the source of the Nile and the Bujagali Hydro power project in Jinja district among others.

As his visit entered day three today, Faure also toured a small scale model farm in Nakabago village, the Madhvani Group owned Kakira Sugar Works and the Kiira Hydro Power Station, all in Jinja.

 His day began with the tour of the Sameer Agriculture and Livestock Ltd., plant in industrial area before proceeding to Jinja, 80km from the city.

Faure who is on a four day official visit was accompanied by state minister for agriculture Bright Rwamirama and taken around the facility in Industrial area by the groups managing director Anoop Sharma and the senior production manager Ashok Sharma.

Sameer are the manufacturers of Fresh Dairy milk; milk products and juice.  

At the facility Faure who was accompanied by five of his cabinet ministers-  Kpabre Batienne-Tourism; Dogbe Victoire-Youth and community development; Ewovor Kossi-Agriculture; Dede Ekoue Ahoefa-Planning and Kolani Gourdigou (Rural development) toured the milk processing, milk production and the juice plants plus the central laboratory before planting a tree and posing for a group photograph with the staff.

At Kiira he was taken around by Nobert Matarutse, the technical director Eskom before proceeding to Bujagali where he was met and taken around by state minister for energy Simon D’ujanga.

At Kakira a visibly impressed Faure and his delegation was taken around the plant by Mayur Madhvani the joint managing director, who personally drove in cart, explaining all the way.   

Faure, 45, jetted in on Monday for the first time  with his delegation are to exchange ideas with various stakeholders in the areas of tourism, good governance, economic planning and budgeting.
