Makerere calm as students go home

Makerere University students on Friday morning packed and left the University halls of residences following the closure of the University on Thursday.

Makerere University students on Friday morning packed and left the University halls of residences following the closure of the University on Thursday.

When the New Vision visited the campus by 8am, some students assisted by their parents were packing their belongings to go back home.

Some students however said they were did not have transport back home. Some looked unbothered to pack and leave the University premises. The situation is calm.

The University was closed indefinitely after staff refused to resume work until their demands are settled.

The University council chairman, Dr. Charles Wana-Etyem, met the staff in an attempt to convince them to call off the week-long strike.

The support, administrative and academic staff, who were on strike, unanimously voted to continue with the strike.
