A woman in Pujwang village, Amor parish in Pakwach town was killed by her husband over food.

Grace Abotho, 40, was allegedly killed by her husband, Odongo Olum, 48, following a domestic quarrel over food on Wednesday.

Olum reportedly came home after a drinking spree and demanded for food. But there being none, a quarrel ensued and he allegedly picked a hoe and hit Abotho in the ribs, killing her. An angry mob wanted to lynch Olum but he was rescued by the Police from Pakwach town.

“She was such a humble woman. The husband would come home drunk with insults and demand for food, but she kept tolerating it.

Now she has been paid negatively for her perseverance,” one of the neighbours said.

Nebbi head of criminal investigations Henry Mulindwa said: “Olum is in our custody for the murder of his wife.

The man reported home drunk at about 3:00pm, demanding for food. When the wife failed to avail the food he killed her. Our investigation shows that he had not left any money for food,” he said.

Mulindwa described the incident as inhuman. He noted that cases of domestic violence were on the increase in the district but admitted that it had not yet resulted into death.

“This is strange. We had cases of domestic violence but it had not reached this level. We shall not condone violence against women. We urge men to stop violating the right of women to life,” he warned.

He said Olum would be produced before a court today, Monday, on charges of murder.
