PRIVATE universities have asked government to consult them when formulating school curriculum at all levels of education to ensure improved quality of education in the country.

Speaking at the 30th vice chancellor forum at Kampala University in Ggaba the chair person Vice chancellors Forum Prof Badru Kateregga said curriculums at secondary school level, primary level and teacher’s level are usually done with out consulting academicians such as professors yet they play great role in determining the quality of education among Ugandans.

“As universities we are very concerned about our own curriculum, in shaping out a curriculum you need to consult with all the stake holders,” he said.

“Our ideas are equally important even if we don’t teach in secondary and colleges but at least we receive their products and if they have followed a bent curriculum in the end it will impact on us when they come for higher education,” he added.

Kateregga also urged government to consider funding private universities which he says has only concentrated on Public universities yet private institutions equally play an important role in educating Ugandans that are not admitted at public universities.

“Public universities admit a few Ugandans, the rest are taken on by private institutions but we lack resources to run these institutions so they should consider allocating funds to private universities to enable us run our programs,” he said.

He added that universities provide academic knowledge and empower human resource in the country saying it is important to map out funding of public and private university and devise means through which they can achieve funding and other concerns for education.

“We equally offer the same academic knowledge so we should be fully entitled to the national cake,” he noted. The vice chancellor’ forum brings together private universities such as Nkumba University, Mbale, Nkozi, and Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Kampala international university, Uganda Christian University, Kampala University among other private Universities in the country.
